I intentionally work against the usual strengths associated with glass art. I try to avoid clean, glossy, bright, slick and the rounded organic or functional shapes which typifies most glass art. Except for metal foil or extremely fine wire, glass typically does not accept the inclusion of other materials. Intentionally, my goal is to push glass as a medium in non-traditional ways. Unlike most glass art. almost all color in my work is created by the use of embedded metal and how it reacts with fluxing agents in the glass, or heat affected oxidization. Whether sculpted glass or fused flat panels they are made with embedded iron, bronze, aluminum, brass, copper, porcelain, and plaster. Occasionally, I will also utilize glass decals too.
